LPRS: This law constituted a significant departure from the 1933 Vagrants and Criminals Law because it explicitly focused on homosexuals and constructed homosexuality as a social crime. It drastically escalated punishment of so-called "homosexual acts," utilizing authoritarian measures such as internment centers, surveillance, and exile in addition to traditional prison sentences. The objective of the legislation was based in the belief that homosexuality was a condition from which one could be cured or rehabilitated before then being successfully reintegrated into society (Tomas, 185).
