Biography: Born in 1928 in Augustusburg, Germany. studying fine arts in Berlin, Leipzig, and Dresden, and following World War II, around 1945-1949 he began creating woodcuts depicting a Berlin postwar struggling with an uncertain future often creating images of destroyed buildings and old furniture. In 1954, he moved to Chicago by way of New York, working in oil on canvas, using the influence of German expressionism to portray the landscapes of the American Southwest as well as the cityscapes of Chicago, in comparison to the demolished landscapes of Europe after the war.
