Julio Mazziotti Argentinian pianist and composer
Biography
[edit]Julio Mazziotti is an Argentinian musician, pianist and songwriter. He was born in the city of Mendoza on December 8, 1960. Son of Vicente Mazziotti and Mirta Greco. He is the second of four children. From a very young age he developed a great interest in music, so much so that with only 4 years of age he built his first musical instrument, with glasses, bottles and wood, with which he spent long moments imitating and creating melodies and different rhythms. This caught the attention of his parents since no one in the family was dedicated to music. Thus began his passion for musical composition.
At the age of 10 he took his first lessons in music theory, solfeggio and classical guitar with the renowned teacher Tito Francia. At the age of 15 he entered the "Escuela Superior de Música" of the UNC (National University of Cuyo) where he began his piano studies.
There he studied for several years the Piano Degree but his main interest was always focused on the creation of his own music. During those years there was no career in composition at the UNC, and since he did not have the possibility of studying in another city, his training in that field was totally self-taught. At 20 years of age he formed several bands of progressive music or progressive rock. The most outstanding of these bands was the quintet La Veta , whose characteristic was to merge elements of jazz with classical music.
In the year 1990 he formed the duo "Dos de la Medianoche", together with the saxophonist Javier Casetti, with whom he recorded his first album titled "Como la Buena Gente" using his own compositions.
In 1992, the duo received the "Los Andes" Prize for their artistic work and their performance at the Centro de Divulgación Musical, dependent on the San Martín Theater in Buenos Aires (Argentina). In 1994 he formed the "Julio Mazziotti Trio", with Tuti Vega on drums and Ariel Fernández on bass. With this group he accentuated his particular style of writing while developing his work as a soloist, and in 1997 he released his first album, called "Un nuevo día".
In the year 2000 he started with his piano solo concerts. He was the creator of the cycle "Julio Mazziotti plays the Piano" at the Museum of Modern Art of Mendoza, Argentina (MMAMM - https://www.facebook.com/mmammza/). The cycle lasted for seven consecutive years and had a concurrence of thousands of spectators who attended every Saturday to listen. It was a place where the musician was constantly and permanently commissioned to disseminate his own compositions as well as their particular versions of popular Argentine music and movies. For this cycle he won the «Scenario Award» 2005 edition of the Multimedio UNO in the Solo Instrumental category.
In 2001 he released his second album titled "The Last Hero", and in 2005 he released his third album "Antología de un Guerrero". In the year 2009 he edited, independently, his 4th CD "La Llave de la Próxima Puerta", a work he presented in his native city of Mendoza at the Teatro Independencia.
In 2010, he was summoned by the Directorate of Culture and Tourism of the City of Capdepera on the island of Mallorca (Spain) as the only representative of Argentina to participate in the "First International Meeting of Pianists of the World", together with the American composers and pianists Suzanne Ciani, Lisa Downing and Rebecca Oswald and the Spanish Mario López Santos.
