Overview

Timberlock is a scenic camping site in Sabael, New York, in the Adirondack Mountains. Timberlock is located on the central-west shore of the 12-mile long Indian Lake, and was originally a 19th century logging camp. Owned for years by the Caitlin family, Timberlock is now generally run by Bruce and Holly Caitlin, whose 1988 wedding was featured in the New York Times. Dick Caitlin, Bruce's father, previously ran Timberlock and appears regularly at the camp each summer.

Activities & Daily Life

Timberlock is a family-oriented campground, with plenty of activities for children and adults. Perhaps the main attraction at Timberlock for the children is the floating trampoline in Indian Lake, roughly 12 feet in diameter, which can be reached either by a short swim, or a rope swing from a nearby dock. Timberlock provides guests with kayaks, canoes, and sailboats for excursions on the lake.

Timberlock has several dozen cabins and tentlets where guests reside. There is no electricity in the cabins, which are lit by provided candles and propane lamps. The main lodge has electrical outlets for charging appliances, and there is an Internet connection available. Some of the cabins have their own bathrooms (with hot water from propane tanks). The camping ground has a pair of public restrooms with showers for the cabins without individual bathrooms. Cabins hold between 2 and 7 people.

Timberlock offers guests both guided hikes and unaccompanied access to many of the Adirondack's most scenic mountains along Indian Lake.
