Gender and leadership in sustainable development

[edit]

Gender and sustainable development have been examined, focusing on women's leadership potential and barriers to it. Although concealed, distorted, and/or ignored patriarchal structures and perceptions significantly contribute to constraining, impeding, and excluding women from leadership roles in sustainable development such positions have become more androgynous over time. Female leadership and presence in upper management has in fact been found to have a positive effect on multinational's support for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)[1] and competency areas crucial for sustainable development that accelerate longer-term business opportunities in line with SDGs.[2]
