Learn It Town host a 3D Virtual world online learning enviroment created by Laura Jeffcoat in 2007, one of the early pioneers in Online Education. It is an immersive learning online enviroment with a city, planets, times in history, that allows multiple-users to enter via avatar through the internet and speak by using voice over IP to each other via a headset with a microphone.
Students from all over the world meet live with a teacher. They can meet at a restaurant, beach, art gallery, home, hotel, airport, the moon, volcano, oil rig, etc. They can walk or run around, sit in a chair, hold and drink a soda, speak to others in the group and together interact with the enviroment with their teacher.
Over 60,000 students from over 139 different countries have studied English at Learn It Town. Learn It Town has worked with many individuals and corporations like British Petroleum, Volkswagen, the Marine Society and many more.
Learn It Town partners today are Laura Jeffcoat, Shelwyn Corregan, Ana Gema Gallegos Garcia and Jana Huggins. They are working with adults, middle/high school students from Italy, elementary school children from Spain and training teachers to work online and develop online curriculum.
Learn It Town has developed a learning methodology of immersive education. They have found that students learn quickly and retain the language longer in the online enviroment.
Every class has a CLIL aspect. Although at first glance it seems like a game, it is an educational enviroment.
