Catarina Hosler
Life
[edit]Catarina Hosler is known for fashion art, neon sculpture, steampunk drawings and metal sculpture. She currently resides in Santa Cruz, California. Catarina was born in San Miguel de Allende Mexico. Her father was the Indian author Dr. Ranjee Gurdassing Shahani, PhD. Catarina’s American mother met her Indian father while studying at the New School for Social Research in New York City. Catarina grew up in Peterborough, New Hampshire, and began her apprenticeship at age 6 to Luis Neri-Zagal, a fine art restorer who studied with Diego Rivera in San Miguel de Allende.
Catarina won her first art prize at 12 years of age from The NHIA's Sharon Arts Center. Her winning piece was a small hand built sculpture, which was purchased by Director of the Mcdowell Art Colony . Catarina left high school a year early and lived in Cannes, France and Tarragona Spain. When she returned, she attended Harvard Extension After graduating from high school Catarina traveled to India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Catarina attended Cabrillo College in Aptos, California as a fine art undergraduate. She then moved to San Francisco, where she was offered a full scholarship to the Academy of Art University where she studied neon sculpture with Christian Schiess, artist-in-residence at the San Francisco Exploratorium.
Catarina then built her own neon studio in the arts district of Oakland and began selling work and getting commissions in the steel mill lofts at Ford Street Studios: Catarina then moved to Santa Cruz California, where she currently resides. Catarina has exhibited nationally, including shows through the Arts Council of Santa Cruz County the Monterey Museum of Art, the [[1]] , the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History, the Big Sur Fashion show: Santa Cruz Fashion Arts show Fashion Art Santa Cruz. In 2015 Catarina was a featured designer in the London Emerging Arts 2015 Alternative Fashion Week, London Alternative Fashion Week UK [2]
