Betageist is a Carmel, Indiana based post-rock and electronic artist, the moniker of Digital signal processing software engineer and University of Miami Music Engineering graduate Kevin Heber.

History

[edit]

Betageist was formed in Carmel, Indiana in 2022[1] as an electronic music project seeking to merge the styles of post rock, Ambient music, Progressive rock, and progressive electronic music.

Drawing influence from a number of artists spanning from the 1970's to present, Heber was inspired to produce cross-genre instrumental music incorporating both synthesizer and guitar-based sounds. He composes with evocative imagery in mind and Betageist's tagline is listed as "Emotional Electronica". Cited influences include Tangerine Dream, David Helpling, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Tycho (musician), The American Dollar (band), Lights Out Asia, Schiller (band), Keith Kenniff, Rhys Fulber, Nils Frahm, Ben Lukas Boysen, All India Radio (band), Mike Oldfield, and Marillion [2]

Betageist's debut release in 2022 was the 5-track EP Interference Patterns, the title of which references the Double-slit experiment and the Many-worlds interpretation which posits the existence of infinite parallel universes. [3][4]

Betageist music is characterized by complex, lengthy, and effects-laden tracks that invoke an ethereal atmosphere, using heavily layered synthesizer and guitar arrangements to dynamically alternate between tranquil and energetic moods.
