History

[edit]

Dead history typeface was invented by P. Scott. Makela in 1990 during a time when digital tools became a standard for designers.

After several revisions, the design was licensed to Emigre Fonts in 1994, where it was redrawn and finalized by Zuzana Licko.

Impact

[edit]

Dead History expresses postmodernism typography, shifting from the idea of clear and simple to expressive and intense forms. This allows readers to explore type not just as a way of communication but also as a visual experience.[1]

Dead history aided in paving the way for other dual typefaces and more creative approaches to the design of type.
