RonsorOS is a 16-bit task-switching kernel since version 9.0[1].
History
[edit]- RonsorOS v1 (0.1.12) was created in 2012[2]. It was the first version of RonsorOS. It used the mouse, however, the mouse could not be used to click on anything and you could just type commands. RonsorOS v1 is not available for download, but it had a slight resemblance to Windows 95.
- RonsorOS v2 (0.1.14) was created in 2013[2] as an attempt to have a Mac-like GUI. It had a basic file manager, but lacked any other features and was quickly dropped out of support[2].
- RonsorOS v3 (3.0) was created in 2014[2]. It was the first version of RonsorOS to use the "Millenium" look[3]. RonsorOS continued with this look in RonsorOS 6 and 9.
- RonsorOS v4 and v5 were created in 2014/2015. It supported multiscripting using its own scripting language[2]. Support was dropped on April 16th, 2015 after 4 1/2 months. RonsorOS 5.0 scripting guide and source is found at RonsorOS 5 Repository.
- RonsorOS v6 and v9 were created in 2015[2][1]. It supports the task switching we know today and runs on top of FreeDOS.
License
[edit]RonsorOS uses a custom license[4] and is closed source. RonsorOS runs on top of FreeDOS and uses open source utilities in its system, but no source to prevent having to release under the GPL or a similar license. RonsorOS v5.0 is an exception and the code is available at RonsorOS 5 Repository
