1.     Proposed Changes:

“After a few years, patches can develop into solid skin tumours that can develop in any region of the body, including the face and head regions. ¹ Pruritus (itching) could become associated with solid skin tumours at this stage. ¹”

My proposed text above replaces the following “The later stages involve the patches evolving into plaques distributed over the entire body. The advanced stage of mycosis fungoides is characterized by generalized erythroderma, with severe pruritus and scaling.”

2.     Rationale for proposed change:

This information is necessary because it provides readers with non-medical background with more a detailed description of the signs and symptoms at a later stage of the disease. For example, the initial version does not specify that “later stages” are in terms of years and does not provide a clear description of which area in the body might be affected by tumours (amended to face and head regions). In addition, the information provided is explained in simple terms that allows readers from any background to understand it, compared to the initial description that included medical terms (generalized erythroderma). The information came from the following Cochrane review:

3.     Area of controversy (if applicable):

No Controversy. Not applicable.

4.     Critique of source:

Although the selected secondary source was recently published (in year 2020), identifying and defining a tumour might be challenging since there is no clear threshold for characterization. Furthermore, the definitions in this article are based on the following guideline:
