The Chess World Cup 2000 was held between 1 September and 13 September 2000, in Shenyang, China.[1][2]

The event was organised by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs. The intention was for this to be the first of four such events held through 2000, with one in the four continents (Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas).[3]

Format

[edit]

The tournament was held with four six-player qualifying groups. Two players progressed from each group to a three-round knockout to decide the winner. Each round of the knockout consisted of a two game match, followed by tie breaks at faster time controls if required.

Qualification

[edit]

All players are Grandmasters, unless stated otherwise.
