Julian Disney

Julian Henry P Disney, AO[1] is an Australian social justice advocate and public policy consultant, academic lawyer and author.[2]

Career

Julian Disney has been an Honorary Professor in the Law Faculty at the University of New South Wales since 2016 and was Professor and Director of the Social Justice Project in the Law Faculty of the university from 2000 to 2015.[3][4]

Julian was President of the Australian Council of Social Service (1985-89) and World President of the International Council on Social Welfare (1996-2000). He established Australia's National Anti-Poverty Week in 2002, was its National Chair until 2018[5] and chaired the National Affordable Housing Summit group, a coalition of ?? (2004-2012).[6] [7]

Julian was Professor of Public Law at the Australian National University (1992-97) and Director of the university's Centre for International and Public Law (1996-97).[8][9] Other appointments include Chair of the Australian Press Council (2009-14)[10] and Chair of the Board of the NSW Energy and Water Ombudsman (2012-18).[11]Julian is a member of the Leadership Council of the Committee for the Economic Development of Australia.[12]

In 1994 Julian was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia for services to the development of economic and social policy and to the law.[13] In 1999 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws (LLD) by the University of New South Wales.[14] He was the South Australian Rhodes Scholar for 1970.[15]
