About Me

[edit]

My name is Jen Wachtel and I an archivist in the Washington, DC region.

I joined Wikipedia as a Graduate Assistant for Labor Collections at Special Collections and University Archives at the University of Maryland. I was a graduate student in the dual-degree History and Library Science (HiLS) master's program, concentrating respectively in Modern Europe and Archives and Digital Curation. I joined Wikipedia in order to participate in Wikipedia Edit-A-Thons and improve articles related to my areas of interest and research. Within Labor Collections, my primary responsibilities were exhibition research and development and reference assistance for the Labor Collections, including the AFL-CIO Archive, the United Carpenters and Joiners America Collection, and other labor union collections housed at the University of Maryland.

Conflict of Interest Statement

[edit]

When I edited Wikipedia as part of my official professional duties as Graduate Assistant, I strove to strictly abide by Wikipedia's accepted practices on conflicts of interest, neutrality, and notability. Because the University of Maryland's educational mission is in line with Wikipedia's mission to disseminate knowledge freely, I made edits that I believed were in accordance with Wikipedia's practices and procedures. Any edits I made aimed to contribute subject matter expertise. This included improving articles about UMD library holdings, particularly the Labor Collections at Special Collections and University Archives.
