From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Since the Cold War, nuclear weapons in Germany have been stored in special ammunition or special weapons depots. Their use was envisaged in the West by the armed forces of Germany within the framework of nuclear sharing and other NATO forces in the event of defence, and in the East by the Soviet Armed Forces Group in Germany.

Germany signed the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Historians estimate that the United States alone at times stored more than 5,000 nuclear weapons in Germany.[1]

Today, the armed forces of Germany provides carrier aircraft for American nuclear weapons, which are flown to the target by German pilots in a deffensive situation. Currently, this is the Tornado fighter aircraft of Tactical Air Wing 33 at Büchel Air Base for the B61 hydrogen bomb, and in the past also missiles and howitzers from the air force and artillery.
