Band stories

[edit]

Antirope was founded on the foundation of family and close friendships, similar to other great bands such as Halestorm, Pantera, and Van Halen. Patrick and Slaven were good friends when they decided to look for a new rhythm section in 2020, and upon meeting Tobi, a guitar player with a keen interest in the drums, the trio began jamming together. Patrick then suggested that his younger sister Julie, a Disco/House DJ, had played bass proficiently when she was younger. After jamming together as a foursome, it was clear that their synergy was undeniable, and they realized that they had found something special. The band's music is defined by Patrick's harmonious dissonance on guitar, Slaven's heartfelt and ethereal vocal, Julie's groovy bass, and Tobi's intricate drumming. The band felt right like family.

Creative Process

[edit]

Antirope's debut album, Amnesia, was produced by Patrick at his studio, Studio 6.0, which he established in the early 1990s and has produced several albums for notable German rock and metal artists. While the studio switched to digital recording, it has retained its analog desk. Patrick wanted to capture the energy of their live performances, which led to the band recording all the instrumentals for Amnesia in just one and a half days. They followed this by recording the vocals in four evenings. The album's mixing was a challenge due to the varied guitar sounds and live recording, but the result was a modern, big sound that blends raw power with ethereal elements.

The creation of the debut album "Amnesia"

[edit]

Patrick decided to record Antirope live to capture their energetic rehearsals. This led to a heavy and deep guitar sound that sometimes had a broken and fat quality. Patrick played riffs with a monophone octaver to create a "muddy yet fractured" feel. The goal was to capture Slaven's single coil guitar's glorious mud with punchy drums and deep bass without sounding cheap. The result was a raw and powerful sound.

Amnesia's instrumentals were recorded in one and a half days, and the vocal takes took only four evenings. Mixing the album was challenging due to the distinct guitar sounds and live immediacy that were meant to sound modern and big.

The album is a fusion of unusual elements that create a unique perspective. It explores the human dichotomy of light and dark, dreams and nightmares, and chaos and hope. Beauty and dissonance coexist in this melodic and haunting album that captures the mysteries of life. Antirope successfully combines tragedy and triumph, leaving an indelible mark on the world.
