What is this page?
[edit]This page is an incomplete, half-finished FAQ to help inform people about the usage of WikiClicky and why you might have noticed it roaming around on the Wikipedia.
What does WikiClicky even do?
[edit]WikiClicky is a tool that was written to perform somewhat pedantic grammatical corrections on Wikipedia articles. It made its first edits on August 26th, 2025, and was shut down on August 27th (see the section below for more information).
On September 7th, WikiClicky was revived after a large amount of discussion and a history book's worth of text blocks.
Why was WikiClicky shut down?
[edit]On August 27th, 2025, the Wikipedia user Mathglot alerted me of potential regulatory problems (read the original conversation here). When I noticed their message (which was almost immediately), I quickly halted the usage of WikiClicky until all of the issues were ironed out. There was a surprisingly active discussion about whether or not WikiClicky is allowed (and what rules apply to its operation), and it appears that WikiClicky is in fact allowed, albeit with some minor improvements.
What's different about WikiClicky this time around?
[edit]WikiClicky will no longer replace double-spaces with single-spaces in Wikipedia articles (per Wikipedia:Cosmetic), and new edit summaries will link to this page. Starting September 13th, I am now beta-testing a new feature that implements MOS:CURLY compliance corrections as well.
On October 11th, I briefly experimented with removing inaccurate orphan templates, but I apparently misunderstood how that system works, so I've stopped now.
Help! WikiClicky destroyed an article!
[edit]Firstly, calm down. This was probably a mistake and was almost certainly not intended to cause harm or distress (more information).
Secondly, revert the edit if it caused an issue with the article in question.
Next, alert the user who approved it. The vast majority of such edits will have come from me; click here to tell me about what happened.
Finally, discuss the problem until a solution is reached. It's possible that this was the result of a bug; please let me know so that I can fix it promptly.
Why did WikiClicky edit that article?
[edit]WikiClicky is constantly checking various maintenance categories for easy work. If your article was added to such a category, WikiClicky probably scanned it and found some issues. If you believe that this was a mistake, feel free to revert the offending edit.
