Child neglect

Why you have chosen this article to evaluate?

[edit]

(Briefly explain why you chose it, why it matters, and what your preliminary impression of it was.)

I decided to evaluate this article because I am writing a paper on if parents are responsible if their child commits a crime. In the conviction of Ethan Crumbley's parents, they were sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison for four counts of involuntary manslaughter. Despite the parents not carrying the act of manslaughter, prosecutors say that Ethan's mental health was on a decline and that they had bought the gun that was used in the shooting. In relevance to my paper, we are trying to evaluate the argument that if a child commits a crime, the parent is not responsible.

I think that this article does a good job in bringing different definitions of child neglect into the picture as there could be different forms of neglect. I think that there are different forms of neglect but we need to answer the question if all child neglect is abuse. The degrees are mentioned under "Types." Does all child negligence from mild to severe count as abusive?
