Diana Lind
[edit]Diana Lind is an American writer, urban policy expert, and public speaker. She is known for her work on housing reform, urban innovation, and city planning. Lind is the author of Brave New Home: Our Future in Smarter, Simpler, Happier Housing (2020), which critiques the dominance of single-family housing in the United States and explores alternative models for living.[1]
Education and Early Career
[edit]Lind was raised in New York City. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Cornell University and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Columbia University.
Her early career included editorial roles at Architectural Record and Rizzoli International Publications, where she focused on architecture and design.
Career
[edit]In 2008, Lind became Editor in Chief of Next City, a nonprofit media organization focused on urban affairs. She later served as its Executive Director, expanding its reach and influence in urban policy circles."The New Urban Order". Substack. Retrieved October 6, 2025.
She has held leadership roles at the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Policy Research Initiative, Penn Institute for Urban Research, and the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia.
Lind is also the founder of The New Urban Order, a newsletter that explores the future of cities, housing, and urban culture.
