This is to document the various user access and control levels.

Scope

[edit]

Firstly, this refers to:

  • mjc.ac.in
  • mjcbed.ac.in
  • mjccas.ac.in
  • mjcschool.ac.in
  • loveinaction.life

All of these are hosted by me, on a server in Singapore. All of these should be considered as separate sites and servers.

There are three levels of access control

  1. The server (CPanel)
  2. Wordpress Admin (wpadmin)
  3. Content editing (wpuser)

We take this in order.

CPanel

[edit]

This is to maintain and secure the server itself. Typical tasks are to apply major updates to the Wordpress installation (once every few months), or a total, scorched earth, redesign of the site.

  • Skills required: An understanding of security, system administration.
  • Recommendation: Sanjeev will hold these credentials, on trust for the MJC group. These will be escrowed with Koshy, for redundancy.

WP Admin

[edit]

This is used for three functions:

  1. Regular updates to the Wordpress system (monthly)
  2. Redesigning the entire layout(yearly?)
  3. Controlling who can create and modify content on the website (as staff and responsibility changes)

It is not normally used for content editing.

  • Skills required: Management, team selection, ownership and responsibility.
  • Recommendation: The Principals will nominate themselves or the HR Head to decide who should hold these, and that person will need to make decisions personally on who will do the actual editing, giving access. You also need to remove access, as staff changes, and this is critical.

WP Users

[edit]

These are the actual team members who, on a daily basis, add, edit, and change content. They will add new pages, and update information. They will also change, if required, the menu and layout.

  • Skills required: PR, Communication, knowledge of what the School is doing, and how it should be communicated, and to whom.
  • Recommendation: The WPAdmins should add these to particular staff's KRA and Job Description, as required. This function should be internal outsourcing this leads to the sites never being updated.
