[edit]I chose to evaluate this article because I think Juan Gabriel is important artist in our generation that constantly defied gender norms in a machista society, specifically Mexico.
I think this matters because despite the constant critiques of his mannerisms and style, he still kept making music and paid no mind to what people had to say about him.
My first impression of his article was that it talks a lot about his career achievements and the obstacles he overcame to become a pop icon. His page does not really talk about the gender fluidity he presented. I thought it would be something that would be highlighted on his page because that is something he also known and admired for.
Evaluate the article
[edit]I think there is a good lead section. I still it is crucial to include the pronunciations of his name, yet I think it can be a little distracting to the reader. Maybe it can be included after the lead section or in the heading section?
I also like how they include that he was known for his style, that broke barriers in the Latin music industry.
I think there could be better pictures of Juan Gabriel, ones that really demonstrate his style and how it defied Latin music industry norms.
The article seems neutral. It does not seem like the writers are trying to sway the audience one way or another. There are some links missing in the section of the personal life, specifically regarding his partners that were his domestic employees. If there is a video interview that we can include, maybe we could add them there.
I think there are more news sources, that talk about his death and concerts, but I think we could include more academic resources, which can touch on the subject of gender and sexuality.
His talk page talks a lot of his sexuality, and there is a back and on whether he was gay or not. They also talk about some improvements to songs and correcting dates and names on the main page.
Overall, I think the page could use some small minor improvements, but I think it does a good job of covering his personal life and career achievements.
