Critiquing Articles:

[edit]

The wikipedia article evaluation taught me to be selective in the information that I put in. In the beginning I would add a lot of wording and things to my article to make it clear to the reader what I was talking about. But as I edited the article and worked with my peers I was able to cut down on unnecessary information and things that were repetitive.

Summarizing your contributions:

[edit]

In the edits in my article I did a lot of grammar and structural work. In the beginning of my article there were a lot of unnecessary repeating and spelling errors so most of my editing went to that. Part of my editing was also trying to remove any biases and any potential personal views I had in the article. Writing the article without my view turned out to be a little difficult as I wanted to explain why I thought that social media's effect was good. I also did some editing on the referencing and in text linking to link certain words to other articles. The references part of the wikipedia page was a bit difficult as I had to do a lot of referencing after each sentence and make sure they worked. Adding photos to the article was another edit that I made that was a bit difficult. I tried using  the upload tool on wikipedia but the images were not working, so I ended up using the wikipedia approved images.

Peer Review:

[edit]

In the peer review process there were a lot of things about improving the flow of the articles. Sourcing and adding in text linkin got go to other related articles. In class when we did work with each other it was very helpful because we were able to show each other how to do the sourcing and how to add references in the text.

Feedback:

[edit]

In the article I did not receive any feedback from other authors. I initially asked in the talk page if my post belonged in the article but they never responded. After I posted the article there still was no response from any wikipedia authors.

Wikipedia Generally:

[edit]

I learned that contributing to wikipedia is a great way to add information to something that not many people know about. When selecting a topic I was going to write about  Professor Hanley and I were  able to find topics that I could write about and add into the article. In the existing article about fitness there wasn't a section talking about social media and its effect on the fitness community. Wikipedia can be used to help improve the public knowledge of topics that may not be known and there aren't any internet posts about.

The wikipedia assignment helped me understand how important it is to provide unbiased information and post it on the internet. It is so easy to add your own thought and biases when writing and not even notice it.
