[edit]Hello and HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY! I am Gamergate. I've taken the name of a popular hashtag used on Twitter that was created by Firefly/Serenity icon and famed Hollywood actor Adam Baldwin on August 27, 2014. Mr. Baldwin's #gamergate Tweet was a joke/reference on the term Watergate - in response to a series of Youtube videos uploaded by a user named InternetAristocrat (aka Jim). These videos were part of a consumer revolt dating back to November 28, 2007 when Gamespot Editorial Director Jeff Gerstmann was fired from his job after posting his game review of Eidos Interactive's Kane and Lynch: Dead Men. Rumors suggested that Eidos Interactive was responsible for Mr. Gerstmann losing his job, as Eidos was a top advertiser for Gamespot. Mr Gerstmann confirmed the rumors of his termination, that his game review of Kane and Lynch: Dead Men led to Eidos threatening to pull advertising from Gamespot. He also noting how this reaction is a common occurrence in Game Journalism. I am not Adam Baldwin. I am Not InternetAristocrat (Jim). I am not Jeff Gerstmann. I am not affiliated with Eidos Interactive. I have never played 'Kane and Lynch: Dead Men'. I have never harassed anyone. I have never threatened anyone. I have never doxxed anyone. I have never harmed anyone. I am here to contribute and edit on Wikipedia just as Jimmy Wales invited people to do. I am simply me. --GamerGate 05:30, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
