The Palmetto Institue was founded by Darla Moore in February of 2002. Its headquarters are located in Columbia, South Carolina. The central mission and singular goal of the Institute is to create a business, community, political and educational climate that will produce dramatic and sustained growth in the creation, distribution and retention of wealth for every person in South Carolina, as measured by the per capita income of its citizens.[1] The general goal of the institute is aimed at not letting South Carolina fall further behind. [2]

Formation

[edit]

The institution was inspired by a South Carolina native, Darla Moore. She was born in the South Carolina and has taken a large interest in her community ever since. In 2007 South Carolina ranked 47 out of 50 in per capita income in the United States. [3] Darla Moore wanted to create an institution that could raise this number and better the lives of South Carolinians. The primary way the institution provides its valuable information is by thorough economic research. This information is then shared with the residents in order for them to better his or her life.
