"The River" is a song by Australian rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, released as the only single from their sixth studio album, Quarters!. It was released with an animated music video directed by Jason Galea. The video features cartoon alligators that have become mascots of sorts for the band, commonly appearing on merchandise as well as the cover for the live album Live in Paris '19.
Composition
[edit]In a review from The Quietus for Quarters!, the song is described as having three movements: the first "splices Pentangle-style medieval folk meandering over a strangely appropriate jazz shuffle", the second "introduces a throb to the duel drums that wouldn't sound out of place on a Battles EP, before returning to the main motif and fading out" and the third "western-wrought harmonica over [...] pleasingly stoned guitars until the track burns itself out."
