Edit Requests Dashboard (ERD) is a tool for both reviewers and requesters who need to submit and respond to edit requests to do so in a more user-friendly manner than traditional Wiki methods. The tool automatically generates statuses for each request on-the-fly to help the reviewer understand the current situation at a glance, and to help users have their requests responded to quicker.

All edit requests submitted via Wikipedia appear in ERD, and all responses submitted via ERD appear on Wikipedia. Requests are ordered chronologically

Review Existing Requests Submit a new Edit Request

The tool was born following a desire within WikiProject Edit Requests to have AnomieBOT show the status of the request following it being set by a reviewer. Unfortunately I'm not great with templates and bot programming, but I'm alright at web dev so I made this! I ended up using it day-to-day so decided to release it on Toolforge for other editors to use as well!

How to use ERD

[edit]
Viewing outstanding edit requests

Visit https://edit-requests.toolforge.org, and select the relevant option. The form is super intuitative and easy to use, just follow the on-screen instructions!

Viewing outstanding edit requests

[edit]
  1. Click "Review existing Requests"
  2. Select the request type
  3. Click on the request to view it.

You can change how the requests list looks by clicking the settings icon in the top right of the screen.

Requesting a new edit

[edit]

If you have any outstanding requests that you've previously submitted via Wikipedia's built-in form, you do not need to resubmit them to ERD. All submissions from both Wikipedia and ERD are added to the same queue.

  1. Click "Create a new Request"
  2. Search for the page you'd like to edit.
  3. Select the reason for your edit request.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions and fill out the form correctly.

Why use ERD?

[edit]

Reviewers: ERD's table displays individual requests, not individual pages and therefore provides a more accurate overview of the size of the backlog. If a page has multiple requests in AnomieBOT's table it is only shown once, in ERD each request is listed.

Requesters: The form for requesting edits on ERD is designed to give you suggestions and tips so that you can make a request that will be more likely to be accepted. The form generally creates higher quality requests than the traditional Wikipedia form. This tool was made by one of the reviewers, so the tool's output is in a format reviewers generally like, unlike the traditional form.

Sourcing & Referencing: The form automatically informs requesters if specific sources are low quality and likely to be rejected, encouraging them to find higher quality sources. I hope that this feature in particular can help to reduce the number of requests rejected for having low quality sources. The tool takes in a URL and correctly formats the reference.

Formatting: The form's requests are also formatted correctly with signatures and correctly formatted citations, avoiding issues such as headings clogging up and breaking reviewer's tools.

Issues and Roadmap

[edit]

If you have any issues with the tool please report them on Phabricator so that they can be tracked. Feel free to also put a message on my talk page to alert me to it. If you're having issues using Phabricator pop a message on my talk page and I can add it for you.

You can view all open tickets on Phabricator.
