Early Life and Education
[edit]Dr. S. M. Shahidul Islam was born in 1972 in the village of Ratail under Kashiani Upazila, Gopalganj District, Bangladesh into a respected Muslim family. His father was the late Sheikh Mohammad Babar Ali and his mother’s name is Amena Begum. He is the fourth among eight siblings. From an early age, he was a meritorious student and a hardworking individual. Alongside his studies, he was also remarkably skilled in sports. For a long time, he has been working in two noble professions. He is a renowned acupuncture specialist in Bangladesh and also serves as a Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Bangladesh Police, fulfilling his duties with dedication.
He completed his MBBS from Tongji Medical University in China. Additionally, he received advanced training in acupuncture and gained significant expertise in the field. While working at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), he was recommended for the 23rd BCS under the Health Cadre (123rd position), and later he was also recommended for the 25th BCS under the Police Cadre, where he joined as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. He served as the founding director of the Drug Addiction Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling Center, operated under the World Bangladesh Police initiative.
Dr. S. M. Shahidul Islam, PPM, PhD, was born in Kashiani Upazila, Gopalganj District, Bangladesh. He completed his undergraduate studies in MBBS from Tongji Medical College, China, followed by a Master’s degree in Public Health. He later earned his PhD with a focus on Food Engineering and Technology and specialized training in Traditional Chinese Acupuncture from reputed institutions in China.
Career
[edit]Dr. Shahidul Islam began his professional journey in the Bangladesh Police and rose through the ranks to become SP. He has served in various districts, contributing significantly to crime prevention, community policing, and counter-narcotics operations.
Alongside his law enforcement career, Dr. Islam is also the founder of SUOXI Acupuncture Hospital in Bangladesh, a center dedicated to alternative medicine and holistic pain management. His work has helped thousands of patients seek relief through acupuncture-based treatments.
