hello. i love history, some of my favorite subjects being:
- the final years of the Roman Republic and Imperial Rome
- Medieval England, particularly the war of the roses and the Tudors
- Soviet Union
- World War 2
- Islam - not what i'd call a "favorite", as its history and barbarous practices chill the blood, but as "the religion of peace" is diametrically opposed to democracy and the west, it is a subject of great concern to any who will not be slaves
There are many more, history is endlessly fascinating to me.
i enjoy fiction as well, some of my favorites being William Gibson, especially his sprawl trilogy. Arthur Miller's plays, esp. death of a salesman, all my sons and the crucible. Shakespeare's histories and tragedies (the romances and comedies don't really do it for me) like the "henriad" are great too, Richard Duke of York (father of the ultimate villain Richard III) is just too badass, as he ruminates thus while on his way to depose Henry VI:
'from Ireland thus comes York to claim his right,
And pluck the crown from feeble Henry's head:
Ring, bells, aloud; burn, bonfires, clear and bright,
To entertain great England's lawful king.
Ah! sancta majestas, who would not buy thee dear?
Let them obey that know not how to rule;
This hand was made to handle naught but gold.
I cannot give due action to my words,
Except a sword or scepter balance it.'
yeah, he's a total badass.
