Homebwoi

James Maddox known professionally as ‘Homebwoi’, is a renowned record producer, artist, song writer, and philanthropist, who received much acclaim following his feature on the 2004 hit “Halftime” with the Atlanta-based group Ying Yang Twins[1] which has become a staple in the collegiate arena.

Born on March 18, 1978 in Griffin, Georgia an industrial city south of AtlantaHomebwoi developed a love for music earlier in life following in the footsteps of his older brother who was also revered as a master lyricist in the Hip-Hop arena.  His passion for the arts (visually and musically) became a way of life creating this pioneer of an artist who continues to break barriers in the industry.

Following high school, Homebwoi really focused on building his professional career.  Known for creating the “Grip-Town Sound” he began entertaining local audiences with captivating performances creating a music sensation that was incomprehensible.  This experience helped to shape his musical journey as he began catapulting himself to greatness.  

Homebwoi began his solo career recording and producing for different artists while launching his first single, “Gimme A Break” as he caught the attention of record labels with the help of his manager Victor Walker known in the industry as “VicXL”.  The Homebwoi era began with one simple visit to Walker’s store, Backstage Music in Riverdale, Georgia, by artist | producer DJ Smurf also known as Mr. Collipark owner of Collipark Music.  This meeting led him signing a deal with the company and then later to Asylum / Warner Music Group.

While working with numerous Grammy nominated and award winning artists and musicians such as DJ Khaled and many others. Homebwoi achieved massive success even during the difficulties he faced in the music industry.  Over the course of the years, Homebwoi received numerous accolades and features in very esteemed publications[2].  In 2023 a documentary about his life and career entitled, “How To Tame An Elephant”.
