Perception Software is a private venture backed company with headquarters in Austin, Texas. The company uses vertical search technology in the development of the search-based applications.

Overview

Perception Software is a software company that develops enterprise search-based applications (SBA’s) specifically for knowledge workers in the engineering, support and quality fields.

History

Perception was founded in January of 2006 in Austin, Texas by Joe Dalton, Reddy Tera and Mark Hepburn. Perception is a privately venture backed company. Perception launched its first product, EDAConnect, in 2006. In August of 2010, Perception launched Encompass Engineeringwhich was the first of it SBA’s for specific knowledge worker groups.

Partners

Perception has established multiple partnerships. The company’s Encompass Engineering product is an alliance member with Cadence Design Systems through the Cadence Connection Program. ^[1] Perception’s EDAConnect is a partner with Mentor Graphics through Mentor’s Open Door Program. ^[2] EDAConnect has an ongoing partnership with Oracle Aigle. ^[3] Perception also partners with Altium.^[4]

Products and solutions

Encompass Engineering: “The intelligent search-based application responds by instantly compiling componentBOM and other relevant data from ERP, PLM, CAD and other internal and external systems to which the company is connected. It aggregates the data, makes it discoverable and delivers a comprehensive view of information for the engineer.”,^[5]
Encompass Quality: A single search of multiple sources that provides failure analysis engineers with information required to resolve quality issues. This product gathers relevant data about product quality from multiple enterprise systems, allowing engineers to quickly research quality related issues.^[5]
Encompass Issue Tracking: The software that searches disparate systems, including CRM and internal defect tracking systems, to aid technical support in finding all the information needed to quickly help resolve issues.^[6]
EDAConnect: EDAConnect allows engineers in the schematic capture and PCB layout tools to release of BOM, engineering design data from engineering into PLM while providing engineers with up-to-date component data from PLM.^[7]
