Schellman
[edit]Schellman (pronounced: Shell-mun) is an information technology and cybersecurity compliance company headquartered in Tampa, Florida. Schellman was founded in 2002 by Chris Schellman and Scott Price. The pair started SAS 70 Solutions after they broke away from the firm Arthur Andersen before the company dissolved. SAS 70 Solutions would change names to Schellman & Company in 2016.[1]
History
[edit]SAS 70 Solutions originally specialized in Statement on Auditing Standards 70 audits and expanded to include SSAE 16, and ISAE 3402 assessment services. [1]
Scott Price served as President of SAS 70 Solutions and Chris Schellman served as Vice President.[2]
Scott Price left SAS 70 Solutions in 2009 and started his own firm A-LIGN, a competing IT and cybersecurity compliance firm. Scott is the founder, Chief Executive Officer, and Managing Partner at A-Lign. [3]
In February 2018, founder Chris Schellman was named an Accomplished Alumni from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and presented with this award at a ceremony in Tampa. [4]
SAS 70 Solutions changed names to Brightline CPAs & Associates, Inc. in 2011 and again changed names in 2016 to Schellman & Company, Inc.[5]
In September 2021, Lightyear Capital acquired assets to form a new venture for the delivery of IT and cybersecurity compliance services through an alternative practice structure called Schellman Compliance, LLC. [6]
Along with the announcement of Lightyear Capital, it was announced that founder Chris Schellman would retire six years earlier than expected in 2021. Company President Avani Desai was promoted to replace Chris Schellman as Chief Executive Officer. [7]

[edit]Schellman provides information technology and cybersecurity audits and assessments, including System and Organization Controls (SOC) examinations, International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certifications, FedRAMP assessments, Payment Card Industry (PCI) assessments, HITRUST assessments, cloud security assessments, Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), and penetration testing. [6] Federal Compliance: In 2012, Brightline became the first CPA firm to be a third-party assessment organization for FedRAMP. Since then, 40 companies have received FedRAMP 3PAO designation, including members of the Big 4 Accounting Firms – Deloitte & Touche, LLP and KPMG, LLP. [8]

Overseas Services:
- In June 2019, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation certified Schellman as a Cross-Border Privacy Rules (CBPR) Accountability Agent. At the time Schellman was only the second such agent in the United States.[12]
- In August 2021, the EU Cloud CoC General Assembly elected Schellman to be a supporting member of the EU Cloud Code of Conduct.[13]
CMMC: In October 2021, Schellman became an authorized CMMC Third Party Assessment Organization.[14]
Digital Trust and Digital Identity:
- In January 2022, Schellman acquired Scott S. Perry CPA, PLLC, located in Bellevue, Washington. Scott Perry’s firm focused on WebTrust for Certification Authorities and specialized in digital certificate authority audits.[15]
- With the Scott Perry Firm acquisition, Schellman became a steering committee member for the Trust Over IP Foundation (ToIP) in March 2022.[16]
- In June 2022, Schellman became an accredited identity credential assessor for the Kantara Initiative.[17]
- In January 2023, the Digital ID and Authentication Council of Canada (DIACC) announced that Schellman was accepted into the DIACC’s Voila Verified Program, a certification program that determines digital identity service compliance with the Pan-Canadian Trust Framework (PCTF).[18]
Locations
[edit]Schellman is headquartered in Tampa, Florida, and the company has office locations in Texas, Ohio, Georgia, North Carolina, Washington D.C., Illinois, and Puerto Rico. The location in Columbus, OH includes an emerging talent program for recent college graduates interested in pursuing a career in IT compliance/audit. [19]
