[edit]Gender transitioning is the process of publicly demonstrating one's gender identity in both appearance and behavior. Social transitioning is asking others to refer to them with new pronouns and/or a new name. Medical transitioning is body modification. Such as surgeries, hair removal, and using cross-sex hormones.
Some of the obstacles faced for those transitioning are time, money, family concerns, and difficulty finding healthcare providers.
The best estimate is .6% of U.S. adults identify as transgender. (Williams Institute, 2016) This number was double what was found about 10 years prior. This could be due to the increase in visibility and social acceptance of transgender people increasing their willingness to identify as transgender. Gender confirmation procedures include surgery, hormone treatments, and psychological therapy.
Transgender people have appeared on the covers of popular magazines including TIME, Vanity Fair, and Men's Health. Elliot Page was TIME magazines first transgender man to appear on their cover. Caitlyn Jenner appeared on Vanity Fair.
