Skill Struck is an educational coding platform that teaches kids ages 10+ how to code. Through weekly one-on-one sessions with instructors, kids can learn how to build a website, app, or even a video game. Skill Struck, founded in June 2017 by Parker Gentry and Brian Rassmussen in Provo, Utah was built on the ideal of developing people, then code. Their instructors not only focus on teaching basic programming languages such as HTML and JavaScript, but also in helping their students progress and develop creativity and problem-solving skills. The program includes an online portal where students use Brackets (a text editor) to write their code and work on personalized projects throughout the week. Parents schedule a recurring weekly session with an instructor where the student receives further instruction and a new coding challenge. Today, the company operates on a monthly subscription model and offers coding instruction from its team of “skillstructors" to kids anywhere in the United States.

History

Skill Struck founder Parker Gentry graduated from Brigham Young University. He came across the need for engaging year-long coding programs for kids and teens, through experiences from his very own younger brother. During Gentry's junior year of college in 2017, he began creating a coding curriculum to change the industry. In 2018, Skill Struck was accepted into RevRoad, a startup accelerator in Provo.
