Hello, this is my sandbox page that I use to help me learn how to create and edit Wiki articles.
Below is a rough draft I am writing called "Thru, Inc.":
Thru is a cloud file sharing and collaboration service for enterprises. Features include file tracking, antivirus scanning, encryption and granular controls over data and users. There are connectors available for applications like Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes for users to transfer large files. The company has deployment options for cloud, a private cloud or on-premises.[4] Pricing starts at $15/user per month.[5]
History
[edit]Thru, Inc. (formerly Rumble Group International LLC[6]), privately held, was formed when co-founders Lee Harrison, founder of I/O Partners, Inc.[7], and Aegis Fund President, Australian professional director and Chairman of Cochlear Limited, Rick Holliday-Smith[8], decided to join forces. The two were competing to purchase a digital asset management software foundation called Studio Central from high performance computer manufacturer Silicon Graphics, Inc., in the summer of 2001. After the events of 9/11, markets were in such turmoil that the founders thought it better to join together rather than competing the for Studio Central asset. The launch of the company, to be held in Silicon Graphics’s booth at the National Association of Broadcaster convention in Las Vegas, NV, hinged on the successful acquisition of the Studio Central source code from SGI.[9][10]
The company successfully launched in May 2002 with Seed funding of $1.7M from L&P Investments and the McKay Trust coupled with the successful acquisition of the Studio Central software source code. Located in Irving, TX and Thru was originally focused on FTP replacement services.
In 2003 after having raised a $2.7M series “A” the company began offering a hosted application FTP replacement service called File Transaction Hub or FTH.
In 2004 the company added its DropboxTM feature to its hosted product features. (no references)
In 2006 after raising its series “B” $2.6M in funding in 2005 the company began moving toward a unified file sharing service with the world’s first managed file transfer MFT, Microsoft Outlook plugin.[11]
From 2006 to 2012 Thru focused on Ad Hoc Managed file transfer as a service and was named as a visionary in the 2009 Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for MFT and Gartner “Cool Company”, in 2011.[12][13]
In May 2014 the company announced that it migrated its cloud infrastructure to Rackspace Hosting.[14][15]
In 2013 after raising its $8.7M series “C” funding the company began focusing on the Enterprise File Sync and Share market and was named as “Niche player” in the 2015 Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Enterprise File Sync and Share.[16][17][18]
Thru, Inc. vs. Dropbox, Inc. Lawsuit
[edit]In 2014, Thru, Inc. filed a lawsuit against file hosting service provider, Dropbox, Inc., for trademark infringement. A settlement has not yet been reached.[19]
