[edit]- Article title: Water pollution
- The reason why I chose this article is because water pollution has been going on for years, and I wanted to know more information as to how it is impacting our ecosystem and for how long has water pollution been occurring. The article consists of introducing what water pollution is to the readers, while also informing them as how to how exactly is the water getting polluted. The article states that water has been getting polluted through various ways such as sewage discharges and oil spill. The articles content is related to the topic as well because it only talks about what is relevant now to water pollution. The content isn't super up to date but it has been in the last 10 years. The tone of the article is also neutral because it has no information that is heavily biased towards a particular position. There are also no viewpoints that are over presented. Overall the article doesn't attempt to persuade the reader in favor of one position. Additionally the sources used in the articles are backed up by reliable sources. The link in the article are also available, it also has a table of links of pollutants and their effects with links that can support water pollution and how these pathogens factor into thermal pollution, nutrient pollution and more . (ARTICLE- B Class)
- Sources: There are numerous sources throughout the entire article but the main three sources that I notice have been repeated or mainly used are from the environmental health education program, encyclopedia of chemical technology and the environment agency from the UK.
Option 2
[edit]- Article title: Overexploitation
- The reason why I chose this article is because I have noticed that recently a lot of the resources that the ocean provides has been decreasing and minimized due to overfishing. The article discusses how fisherman have been causing overconsumption to fish while decreasing biodiversity by doing so. The article states how fishermen have contributed to extinction in endangered and extinct species. Additionally the tone throughout the article is neutral because there is no evidence used to persuade or lead the readers to a certain view point, and no viewpoints were under present/ over presented. However the minority fringe viewpoints accurately described do support how mass fishing has decreased the stock biomass. Overall the article does not seem to be biased and is overall talking about how fishing is negatively impacting the ocean due to various reasons one of which is decreasing bio diversity. (ARTICLE- B Class)
- Sources: There are a total of 59 sources but the top three come from bioscience articles, microeconomics and Oxford dictionary
Option 3
[edit]- Article title: Sea urchin
- The reason why I chose this article is because I have always found sea urchin interesting. The article discusses the origins of sea urchins and how many species there are in the ocean. The article talks about the physical properties of sea urchins and how the live in the ocean. The article strictly provides background information as to how these animals live, their phylum, their species, their contribution to the ocean and their lifestyle. (ARTICLE- GA Class)
- Sources: Animal diversity web (zoology), Taxonomic Etymyologies.
Option 4
[edit]- Article title: Sperm whale
- The reason why I chose this article is because I find it intriguing that the photos showed how whales reproduce and how big they are. Additionally the article states how whales use echolocation to not only navigate through the water but to communicate with their own species and to inform other species in the ocean of their presence. Moreover the article talks about how the whales have different types of vocalization, and the different sperms whales carry. Lastly the article has a neutral tone and does not favor a certain viewpoint. (ARTICLE- Rated C-Class).
- Sources: Order Cetacea, Mammals of the world etc.
Option 5
[edit]- Article title: Threats to sea turtles
- The reason why I chose this article is because as we all may know the usage of plastic straws has became limited due to the harm that is has been causing to the turtles health and to the ecosystem overall. The article seems to be more informational than persuading however there are some points that were stated that can come off as a bit persuading since it lists all the negative impacts the plastic straws have on the testudines health, and how water pollution is killing this species. I also notice that the article has various sources that help them support their evidence as to how the species of turtles is in high threat. (ARTICLE- B Low)
- Sources: Threatened species, The biogeography of leatherback turtles, Light pollution and marine turtle hatchlings, etc.
