Cristian ENĂCHESCU (5 January 1976 - 25 September 2024), physicist, Dr. Habil., was full professor at the Faculty of Physics, "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iaşi, Romania.

He was born in Botosani county (Romania), where he followed elementary and high school studies. Between 1994 and 1998 he performed undergraduate studies at "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University (acronym UAIC) in the Iaşi, completed with master degree, 1998-2000. He elaborated the doctoral thesis in the 2000-2003 interval Université de Versailles Saint Quentin en Yvelines, France, with the title “Contributions to the study of light induced bistability in inorganic photomagnetic solids”. In 2003-2004 he was assistant professor, Department of Physical Chemistry, University of Geneva, Switzerland. Since 2004 he became associate professor at Faculty of Physics, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University Iaşi, till 2018 when he was confirmed as full professor. In 2013 he obtained the habilitation, i.e. the right to to supervise PhD theses, completing the doctoral graduation of six students.

He published over 100 ISI papers in prestigious scientific journals (e.g. Nature Mater., Phys. Rev. Lett., Phys. Rev. B, Adv. Mater, Angew. Chem, Appl. Phys Lett., J. Appl. Phys., Inorg. Chem., J. Phys Condens. Matter, J. Phys Chem B etc.), for about half of them holding the quality of main author (i.e. first or corresponding author), recording about 3000 citations and achieving Hirsh Index of 30.

Cristian Enachescu's main achievement is the elaboration of an original model for the study of the mechanoelastic model of spin transition, resulted from a good understanding of physical chemistry of spin crossover phenomena, achieved during his post doctoral stage in Geneva, by collaboration with the chemist Andreas Hauser.
