K9 Mail is an open source e-mail client for Android. It is a fork[1] of the built-in e-mail client. Author and software developer Jesse Vincent of Perl and Request Tracker fame forked it and improved several features, notably adding IMAP IDLE support for push notifications in version 2.0[2].
