I am evaluating the Gordon Duncan wiki page. He was a well known piper from Scotland who passed away in 2005.
I chose this article because I am a big fan of Gordon Duncan and his music. I also know a bit about him so I felt like I would have a good time seeing what is here for him. The article doesn't seem too bad but there definitely could be more, maybe it is hard to find sources that detail more but I definitely know there is more to talk about his life.
Evaluation
Lead Section - The lead section they have in his article is pretty well non-existent. They give a sentence description about him then just jump right into his early life. If I were taking a quick look to see who he was I would have learned pretty much nothing about him from the lead section.
Content - The content in here does seem pretty good for the most part. Although I do think they could have talked quite a bit more about his compositions and his influence on younger players. His compositions are played everywhere, including Cape Breton and I think it is important to note that. Also he is a very influence musician, especially to Ali Hutton and Ross Ainslie. They are both very well known in the trad piping scene today and they were bought students of Gordon Duncan and I think that is worth mentioning.
Tone and Balance - I don't have much to say for this, the article seems neutral and balanced in what it talks about.
Sources and References - They have 15 sources that all look pretty good. I will say they don't have many from piping related media outlets that I can think of so I feel like they might be missing that perspective in the article.
Images and Media - There are no images or other media pieces in this article and there could be so much. There should be pictures of him, bands he has played with, sound clips of his tune and playing, and even maybe an image or two of his tunes' sheet music.
Talk Page Discussion - There are some good conversations happening oaths page. Most notable to me is two people talking about if Gordon Duncan should be credited with bring the C natural to the pipe scale, and if he should get credit for popularizing it in modern piping.
Overall Impressions - I think this is a pretty decent article with some good foundations to improve. The biggest thing for me his the lack of input for his tunes and the lack of images and media In the article, although I know that could be due to copyright issues.
