Edit period(s): Onetime, also requesting on-demand WikiProject tagging
Estimated number of pages affected: ~13,500 (may increase) + 3300 of param conversion = ~16800
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): Yes
Already has a bot flag (Yes/No): Yes
Function details: Per request by Magiciandude and Oscar, I would like to do the WikiProject tagging for the WikiProject Latino and Hispanic heritage with {{WikiProject Latino and Hispanic heritage}}
As per the comments from here, first set of pages (most probably the largest) is petscan:33068156 with about 10,000 pages. If the project agrees to expand their reach and give me a few more categories, the number may go up by a few thousand.
Additionally, I will also update the pages tagged with {{WikiProject United States}} and params like |Latino and Hispanic heritages=
or similar are set to remove that parameter and add the new project template added. (Added 12:20, 10 March 2025 (UTC) based on comment below)

[edit] Approved for trial (100 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Primefac (talk) 13:46, 3 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Trial complete. 100 edits No errors found from my spot checks. Also, I hope you will grant on-demand running permission after approving this. Thanks! ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 13:12, 4 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- I am rather hesitant to extend the scope of this task; you have four approved tasks out of five submitted, and two of them required extended trials to get things right (and one was technically a duplication of an existing task). I will leave this open for other BAG to opine, but personally I think you need a slightly longer track record before getting open-ended permission for this sort of thing. Primefac (talk) 17:23, 4 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Just noting that the extended trial for task 3 was due the change of not do half of the task first requested (which went well, but wrong pages, due to mistakes in petscan creation, not due to bot code/operation). If you're still hesitatant, I'm fine with just approving this as one off. Thanks! ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 01:22, 5 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- @Primefac: I withdraw my request for extended approval. Please just grant approval for this one-time task. Small note: the number of pages for this tagging may increase a bit depending on the request of the wikiproject, I hope that task covers that. Thanks! ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 11:54, 6 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- You mentioned that if the project decides to expand its scope and add more categories, the number of pages could increase by a few thousand. Can you please confirm this with the WikiProject folks and update the approx number of pages in the request details? – DreamRimmer (talk) 16:39, 9 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Posted this on the project talk, will update here after a response from them. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 12:20, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for changing the target halfway through the trial, but it just occurred to me that there are a ton of pages calling {{WikiProject United States}} where if |Latino and Hispanic heritages=
and similar are set to yes then that parameter should be removed and the new project template added. Do you feel comfortable doing this or should I use my bot to do so? Primefac (talk) 20:44, 9 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- I am ready to do this as well. Infact, as the pages are only ~330 (Category:Pages using WikiProject United States with unknown parameters) and require a lot of manual checking for various types of params, I'll do it supervised (Using the bot acc only though). Added in the task desc as well. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 12:20, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Uh... there are over 3000 pages that currently need to be converted. Primefac (talk) 12:34, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Oh... I looked at the wrong category. Can I do it as a part of this task, or should I create a new one for it? ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 12:47, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- That's why I asked if you'd be willing to handle it with this task; please re-confirm if this is an acceptable expansion of the scope. Primefac (talk) 13:12, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- I am willing to extend the scope of this task as added in the last lines of the Function details section. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 15:29, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Approved for extended trial (100 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Please do this for the fork out from the WPUS banner using the category given above. Primefac (talk) 19:12, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Trial complete. 100 edits ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 13:03, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Um... the intention was to remove the parameter and add the new banner, not make two edits doing one each. Primefac (talk) 13:08, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- I had that as well in my settings, but disabled it for simplicity purposes. Small oversight on my end, apologies. Do I need another trial? Really sorry again for missing this. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 13:15, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Since this is a template addition and not a merger or anything more complex, I am less concerned about the proper output, so no, that should suffice. DreamRimmer, if you are satisfied by the answer(s) to your question above and are otherwise good to go, so am I. Primefac (talk) 13:25, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- I don't see any issues. Please feel free to proceed with the approval.
- Pranav, please make sure to check for any false positives in the list of pages. I have done a similar task in the past and accidentally tagged some out-of-scope pages, which led to some complaints. – DreamRimmer (talk) 13:52, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks a lot DreamRimmer and Primefac. I too have had the misfortune of tagging a bunch of out-of-scope pages in my last tagging BRFA, so have asked for it to be checked by the wikiproject folks multiple times. There should not be any issues. However, I'll go through it myself once more. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 13:57, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Approved.
- This is from a procedural standpoint, but please deal with the WPUS category first, as I suspect that there will be a non-trivial amount of overlap between the existing pages and those that the new WikiProject have compiled; modifying the existing banners first will avoid duplication of effort.
