Brent Swaltek (born August 2, 2001) is an American lighting and special effects designer, programmer, operator, and technician. Swaltek began his career in 8th grade as a technician for his high school theater, the Richland Performing Arts Center. Over the years, he explored various disciplines within the entertainment industry, including audio, carpentry, scenic design, and video production, but ultimately found his passion in lighting and special effects.
Early Life and Family
[edit]Brent Thomas Swaltek was born on August 2, 2001, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He is the only child of Jennifer Casker and Keith Swaltek. His mother, Jennifer, is an Advanced Registered Nurse (ARN), while his father, Keith, served as a police officer, emergency medical technician (EMT), and firefighter before transitioning to his current role as a security officer at a local hospital.
At the age of seven, Swaltek was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). During his treatment and recovery, he was inspired to create an organization called Brent's Bandaids, which donated colorful bandages to children's hospitals across the United States. The initiative gained national attention, with collection sites established across the country, allowing people from all over to contribute to bringing comfort to young patients. Swaltek’s efforts provided thousands of colorful bandages to brighten the spirits of children undergoing treatment.
Education
[edit]After graduating high school, Swaltek attended Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he studied Theatrical Design with a concentration in Lighting Design. He spent three years honing his technical and artistic skills, gaining hands-on experience in designing and operating complex lighting systems for a variety of productions. His education at Point Park provided him with a strong foundation in stagecraft, design principles, and advanced lighting technologies.
Career
[edit]Swaltek's interest in technical theater began during his middle school years, where he volunteered as a stagehand and technician. His dedication and expertise grew throughout high school as he gained experience in lighting, audio, and scenic design. By the time he graduated, he had solidified his skills and was recognized for his contributions to the Richland Performing Arts Center.
After college, Swaltek pursued opportunities in the live event industry, working on a variety of productions, including concerts, theatrical performances, corporate events, and special effects displays. He has developed a reputation for his precision in lighting design and programming, as well as his ability to integrate complex special effects systems for high-profile events.
Some of his most notable career moments include serving as the Special Effects Operator for Twenty One Pilots’ Clancy Tour, acting as the Lighting Director for Brit Floyd, a globally recognized Pink Floyd tribute band, and working as the Laser Programmer and Operator for J-Hope’s Hope on the Stage in North America tour, showcasing the BTS member’s dynamic stage presence.
Professional Work and Notable Projects

His expertise extends to DMX control systems, laser programming, pyrotechnics, and Showven flame systems, where he has demonstrated an exceptional ability to troubleshoot and optimize advanced special effects equipment.
Personal Life
[edit]Swaltek currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee, where he continues to work on expanding his portfolio of lighting and special effects projects. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys playing golf, hockey, and traveling.
