Bernard Meisler is a software developer, publisher and writer from California's Bay Area.
As a developer, he won a Yahoo Site of the Week for his work for Songlines Gallery. While at MTV Networks, he created the world's first Flash-based artificial intelligence chatbot, adapted from the Java-based A.L.I.C.E., for the MMORPG Nicktropolis. While at MTV, he programmed many Flash games for Nickjr.com; he won a Broadcast Design Award for programming the Downward Doghouse Magic Lantern. At AddictingGames.com, the world's largest casual gaming site, he produced a dozen games that accrued millions of visits. He is currently a senior software engineer at Say Media in San Francisco.
Meisler publishes the acclaimed literary magazine Sensitive Skin, which has published artists, writers and musicians including William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Samuel R. Delany, Fred Frith, John Lurie, Ruby Ray, Lynne Tillman, John Zorn, James Romberger, Maggie Estep, Jack Micheline, Herbert Huncke, Patrick McGrath and Justine Frischmann. He also publishes books, East of Bowery,[1] with a text by Drew Hubner and photographs by Ted Barron, Barefoot in the Heart, an oral history of Neem Karoli Baba edited by Keshav Das, Backwards the Drowned Go Dreaming[2] by Carl Watson, and Music: Drawing Down the Muse by David West.
As a writer, he has contributed fiction to such literary magazines as Between C & D, Red Tape, Yeti (magazine) and The Crimes of the Beats. Meisler is also a technology writer for ReadWrite[3] and The Atlantic Monthly[4].
