Jaime Rios
[edit]Diffs:
In 2005, Judge Rios' conduct in the second murder trial of Tyrone Johnson came under scrutiny. Johnson's first conviction for the murder of nightclub owner Leroy Vann was overturned by Judge Rios when it was revealed that a prosecutor lied about the whereabouts of a defense witness.[1] Judith Memblatt, the judge's former law clerk, accused him of improperly coaching the prosecutor in the second trial, Eugene Riebstein.[2] Based on Memblatt's allegations, Johnson's defense attorney Ron Kuby sought to overturn this second conviction.[2] In support of the motion to vacate the conviction, Kuby took the unorthodox step of calling Judge Rios as a witness to address the allegation,[3] but Rios denied any misconduct. A side issue in the case is Memblatt's further allegation of a sexual affair between former prosecutor Meryl Lutsky and the married Rios which, in Memblatt's words, made him "unfit" to be a judge.[4] The affair, and Memblatt's subsequent firing, prompted the tabloid New York Post to call Rios the "Love Judge."[4] Memblatt has gone on to become a blogger highly critical of the New York state judiciary as a whole.[5] In October 2006, Judge Matthew D'Emic denied Johnson's motion to overturn the conviction, finding no misconduct on Rios' part.[6]

George Wesley Edmonds
[edit]Diffs:
Biography
[edit]Early life
[edit]Edmonds was born on August 13, 1890, in Knight Township, Vanderburgh County, Indiana.[1] He attended Carver Elementary School, and graduated Clark High School in Evansville, Indiana in 1910.
Founding of Kappa Alpha Psi
[edit]Edmonds entered Indiana University in the fall of 1910. Soon thereafter he and nine other men founded Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.[2] Edmonds returned home in the summer of 1911. While there, his father, a coal miner, became terminally ill with pneumonia and died.[1] Edmond withdrew from school and assumed the responsibility of supporting his family, taking the job of a coal miner, like his father.[1]
Due to having to support his family, his isolation from the academic community, errors in organizational records, and the subsequent renaming of the fraternity, Edmonds lost contact with the founders and other members of the fraternity.
Later life
[edit]Edmonds married Willa Mae Forte and settled in Stevenson, Indiana, the couple having one son named Noel.[1]
Edmonds died of pneumonia June 13, 1962, and was buried in Evansville, Indiana, unbeknownst to the members of the fraternity he helped found.[2]
In 1972, Dr. Henry S. Wilson requested and received information on Edmonds from the Assistant Registrar of Indiana University.[2] In 1975, Founder Edward Giles Irvin called for a renewed surge of investigation, aided by the information gained by Wilson's request, to find the whereabouts of Edmonds.[2] Edmonds' family members were recontacted in 1975 by William E. Miller, Polemarch (or chapter chairman) of the Evansville Alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, and in 1978, Edmonds burial site was finally rediscovered.[2]
A monument was designed in Edmonds honor, and on July 2, 1979, the monument was dedicated to consecrate Edmond's grave.[2]

Eastland Center
[edit]Diffs:
After the loss of Montgomery Ward in 1998, the center began to falter.By 1998, the mall was down to 78% occupancy, and the mall's consumer base had shifted to minorities.[2][3] Eastland Center was acquired by the Shopco Advisory Group in 1999, with plans for renovation;[4] under Shopco's tenure, new stores were added.[5] In September 2003, Sears opened in the former JCPenney space. The same year, the mall's twin theater was demolished, with a Lowe's home improvement store (detached from the mall itself) being built on the site of the former twin theater in the northeastern corner of the property. A new, much smaller food court was created from retail space in the Sears wing.[6] Marshall Field's, in turn, was acquired and renamed Macy's in 2006.
