Trinacria Linux is a Sicilian Linux distribution[1] based on Ubuntu partially localised in Sicilian dialect and published via ISO on the Web.

History

[edit]

The first release was created in 17 August 2012 by a group of sicilian developers of University of Palermo. It was build with fork of Ubuntu 12.04 using relinux and remastersys. This decision was because of its popularity and to use the powerful apt-get natively. The main goal of this project is give to Sicilian people an all in one operating system suitable for public administration of the isle. For this reason in Trinacria Linux are included userful plug-ins as Flash, Java Virtual Machine, Microsoft True Type and so on.

The logo and the codename

[edit]

The logo of distribution is based of Sicilian "Trinacria" composed of Medusa (ancient monster of greek mythology) with three legs, snakes in her head and ears of wheat all around. The difference in the logo is the use on face of Tux instead of Medusa. The codename "Cassata" is related of typical sicilian cake with almond paste which named "Cassata".

Specifications

[edit]

Trinacria Linux uses apt-get to install remove or upgrade packages and is designed for i386 e AMD 64. The Live CD can be installed on hard disk by using Ubiquity.
