Julian Tanaka is a jazz saxophonist who now works for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas[1] and the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts.

Tanaka is a woodwind specialist who has performed on several notable tours and residencies, including the Broadway musical Come Fly Away and a residency with Boyz II Men. He has also composed music for several groups, including the UNLV Wind Orchestra and LVA Jazz III. In addition to his performing and composing work, Tanaka currently teaches jazz at UNLV and the Nevada School of the Arts.[1]

Personal life

Julian Tanaka graduated from the Las Vegas Academy of Performing and Visual Arts and later attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he earned a B.M. in Jazz Arranging in 2013. He studied clarinet with Marina Sturm and jazz arranging with Joe Lano at UNLV. In 2016, Tanaka received his M.M. in Jazz Writing from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied saxophone with Charles Pillow under the guidance of Bill Dobbins. [1]
