Dr. Anthony A. Romeo is an American orthopaedic surgeon known for his methods of an advanced shoulder replacement used for the treatment of arthritis. He works at the Rush University Medical Center and lectures advanced surgical techniques to surgeons worldwide. He also serves as a co-team physician for the Chicago Bulls[2] and Chicago Whitesox.
Early life and education
[edit]In 1983, Romeo obtained his B.S. degree at the University of Notre Dame. In 1987, he got his M.D. degree at Saint Louis University. Since 2009, he is a professor in the Division of Sports Medicine of Department of Orthopedic Surgery of Rush University Medical Center.
Career
[edit]Dr. Romeo is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, re-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2008. He is also a member of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Society, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the Mid-America Orthopaedic Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. Because of his accomplishments, Dr. Romeo has been selected for the Best Doctors in America, as well as being named one of the top physicians in Chicago by Chicago Magazine.
In 2011, Romeo executed surgery to reattach Jake Peavy's latissimus dorsi muscle after it tore free during his 2010 season with Chicago White Sox.[3] Peavy's surgery required a complete reattach of the tendon to the bone, rather than removing it completely.[4]
