The township of Plock was bombed on the very first day of WWII , September 1st, 1939, at dawn. 4 days later the town's government officials abandoned the town and its bureaucratic functions completely stopped working. Many refugees from the town fled to Warsaw and the surrounding villages. The town was officially occupied by Nazi's on September 8th, 1939, within the following months the Jewish population was terrorized regularly by German troops. Houses in Jewish neighborhoods were robbed during the night and the people inside were herded outside then beaten and humiliated for hours on end. On another occasion, Jews were buried up to their necks in the Earth but were saved by local peasants. [1] On March 1st, 1941 the town was "liquidated" by the invading Nazi's in 1941 as the Jewish leaders were brought together and told to bury those who had died and join the rest of their people to be deported to different camps or if they were incredibly lucky, to their freedom.
