The Barbenthos project
was a privately run marine deepwater bottom-sampling project
based at Holetown, Barbados, West Indies -primarily seeking rare molluscan seashells
but also assisting researchers from the local Bellairs Research Institute (McGill Univ.) field station
with various offshore tasks of their own.
The project lasted for four years: 1985-1989
and used a converted 19 foot Aquasport work-boat named Barbenthos
equipped with a winch and davit, for getting various gear and equipment on board
after retrieval from depth.
