From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

IBM WebSphere Compute Grid is a product that extends IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) to include a managed container environment for Java batch. It is available on all platforms supported by WAS itself. On the z/OS platform the Compute Grid product offers specific exploitation of SMF for usage recording and WLM for job classification. IBM WebSphere Compute Grid is a functional super-set of the IBM Feature Pack for Modern Batch. The Feature Pack is a no charge addition to existing WebSphere Application Server V7 license holders while IBM WebSphere Compute Grid is a separately licensed program product.

Compute Grid works on WAS V6.1 or WAS V7. The Feature Pack is available only for WAS V7.

Installation / Customization

[edit]

Both the Feature Pack and the Compute Grid products require augmentation to the WAS profile. Augmentation is the act of updating the configuration profile with knowledge of and links to the added functionality. Augmentation is achieved using either a configuration wizard (Windows), a shell script (AIX or Linux), or on z/OS by way of customized JCL jobs that perform the augmentation.
