AxxonSoft
[edit]AxxonSoft is a privately held multinational software company that develops and markets video management system (VMS) and physical security information management (PSIM) software.
The company's products are distributed by certified partners in over 100 countries.[1]
History
[edit]Beginning
[edit]AxxonSoft was founded in 2003.[2] The company's started out with the development of a proprietary video compression algorithm called Motion Wavelet and the concept of a universal security platform that was implemented in the Intellect software product.
Motion Wavelet proved to be in-demand codec in terms of the ratio of compression to resource consumption[3][4]. Codec provided a optimal quality for freeze frames and adapted to the available network bandwidth. Motion Wavelet paved the way for building large digital video surveillance systems with rational use of the resources on servers, clients and the network.
The idea of a universal platform assumed the demand for a unified software product capable of synthesizing data and managing all major security systems[5]: video surveillance (ССTV), perimeter protection (PPS), access control (ACS), and fire and security alarms (FSA). Today, such systems are known as PSIMs.
Growth
[edit]The universal platform concept and a business model focused on industry solutions have enabled Intellect to maintain key positions in the public security sector and in vertical markets such as retail, oil and gas, and banking, as well as in logistics, industry and transport infrastructure. In particular, modules were released in 2004–2005 in order to provide industry-specific solutions:
- POS Intellect (video monitoring of retail checkout transactions);
- Auto Intellect (vehicle license-plate recognition and traffic monitoring);
- ATM Intellect (security for ATM networks);[6]
- Face Intellect (facial recognition).
In 2006, AxxonSoft started work on the Next Generation Platform (NGP), which later became the basis for the Axxon Next VMS. The NGP was originally intended to work with increasingly popular IP equipment, so it was designed as scalable, cross-platform software that could integrate with any security systems. The creation of NGP involved implementing new concepts, such as micro-modular architecture for increased fault tolerance, and a SolidStore file system for storing the video archive that completely eliminated data fragmentation problem.
In 2007, the company began international expansion. A number of international distribution contracts were signed, and first representative offices were opened in Spain, Canada and Argentina.
In 2008, the company emerged as the market leader for Open Network Video Management Software in the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East and Africa), and third in the world in this category according to IMS Research, U.K.[1][7]
Present
[edit]AxxonSoft has offices in over 40 countries and operates in more than 100 countries through a network of certified partners that includes about 5,800 companies. About 150,000 projects have been implemented with security and video surveillance systems based on AxxonSoft products, including over 2.5 million video channels. There are 240 Safe City systems controlled by Intellect that are at various stages of implementation.
Products and Technologies
[edit]Axxon Intellect Enterprise PSIM
[edit]Intellect is a software platform of the PSIM class capable of combining diverse security systems into a single information environment managed through a unified interface.
Intellect includes a full-featured VMS and supports integration with many systems using low-level protocols, so it can directly control edge devices such as access controllers, alarm sensors, and so on.
Axxon Next VMS
[edit]Axxon Next is video management software based on NGP (Next Generation Platform). The first version, which supported up to 4 servers and 256 cameras, was released in 2009 (the product was called Axxon Smart IP at that time). The scalable version released in 2012 was designed for creating security systems of any size.[8]
TimeCompressor technology
[edit]TimeCompressor is a video analytics module developed and marketed by AxxonSoft that allows to set a time range for video footage and get a short video clip of all moving objects in the scene.[9] Objects and events captured at different times are displayed simultaneously in a condensed "video synopsis". The total number of objects displayed by TimeCompressor is user-definable. Slick image technology minimizes object overlap.
MomentQuest technology
[edit]MQ is a video analytics module for forensic search that is developed and marketed by AxxonSoft. The video search filters criteria based on indexed metadata of object characteristics and motion properties, combined with a database designed for this purpose. The MQ module is cross-functional for various CCTV applications such as object tracking, face recognition, and license plate recognition.
AxxonSoft products use a large number of video analytics, both those developed in-house and integrated third-party technologies. These include:
- Facial recognition
- Recognition of barcodes and QR codes
- Recognition of numbers on license plates, shipping containers and railcars
- Stopped vehicle detection
- Collection of traffic statistics
- Detection of traffic violations
- Motion detection
- Object detection and tracking
- People counter
- Queue length detection
- Detection of "hot spots" and "cold spots"
Since 2016, the company has been actively developing its own video analytics tools based on deep learning. These include:
- Fire detection
- Smoke detection
- Search for people among moving objects (neural network filter)
- Sweethearting detection (catching when items are moved through the checkout without scanning the barcode)
Video analytics are used in AxxonSoft products both for real-time detection of events and for accumulating data that is later used for fast search in the video archive.
IP integration and ONVIF
[edit]From its inception, AxxonSoft cooperated with manufacturers of IP video surveillance equipment and continually expanded its list of integrated devices. After starting with 10 models of Axis IP cameras in 2004, by 2008 Intellect supported 134 devices from different manufacturers.
In 2010, support for IP devices was moved to the Drivers Pack module, which is released separately from the main products. The Drivers Pack made fast integration of IP devices possible, and the module's independence allowed customers to add new integrations to existing security systems.
In the same year, AxxonSoft joined ONVIF as a contributing member and began to actively participate in shaping the direction of the industry.[10] ONVIF support was later implemented in the Drivers Pack module.
In 2011, AxxonSoft products introduced support for on-board video analytics on IP devices: receiving video detection events and metadata (scene descriptions) for further processing.[11]
In 2012, the Drivers Pack supported more than 1000 IP devices, and by 2015 their number exceeded 8500. At the end of that year, the Intellect PSIM was the first product in the world to incorporate ONVIF Profile G, which allows access to on-board data storage on IP devices.
In 2016, the same feature was added to Axxon Next, and the Drivers Pack added support for the H.265 codec. AxxonSoft products currently support about 10,000 different IP devices.[12]
In 2017, the Drivers Pack implemented integration of IP systems for perimeter protection (PPS) and fire and security alarms (FSA).
