![]() | Evaluate an article
Complete your article evaluation below. Here are the key aspects to consider: Lead sectionA good lead section defines the topic and provides a concise overview. A reader who just wants to identify the topic can read the first sentence. A reader who wants a very brief overview of the most important things about it can read the first paragraph. A reader who wants a quick overview can read the whole lead section.
ContentA good Wikipedia article should cover all the important aspects of a topic, without putting too much weight on one part while neglecting another.
Tone and BalanceWikipedia articles should be written from a neutral point of view; if there are substantial differences of interpretation or controversies among published, reliable sources, those views should be described as fairly as possible.
Sources and ReferencesA Wikipedia article should be based on the best sources available for the topic at hand. When possible, this means academic and peer-reviewed publications or scholarly books.
Organization and writing qualityThe writing should be clear and professional, the content should be organized sensibly into sections.
Images and Media
Talk page discussionThe article's talk page — and any discussions among other Wikipedia editors that have been taking place there — can be a useful window into the state of an article, and might help you focus on important aspects that you didn't think of.
Overall impressions
Examples of good feedbackA good article evaluation can take a number of forms. The most essential things are to clearly identify the biggest shortcomings, and provide specific guidance on how the article can be improved. |
Which article are you evaluating?
[edit]Why you have chosen this article to evaluate?
[edit]I chose this article because I have always had a fascination with coral reefs and the ocean life that revolves around them, but more recently I've realized how human activities have been affecting them and the damage this will have and is having to overall marine life. I hope to one day work towards preservation efforts in not only coral reefs but for many endangered ecosystems and species around the world.
Evaluate the article
[edit]The lead section is good and gives a general background to the main topic of the article, but it doesn't entirely allude to everything the article covers. I think that a few precise summaries of the other topics in the article would help the reader know what they are getting into and make article better overall. The content of the article was overall very good, and I only have a few suggestions on how things could be reworded or rearranged. I think that the link in the introduction section could be moved by adding a sentence at the end of that section specifically about low impact diving. In the coral reefs section, I think it would be beneficial for the reader and the articles overall credibility to add a few sentences about the reproductive cycle of corals, because it is a key part in their life cycle. Also in the coral reefs section, I think that the last sentence would be better placed in between "single celled algae derive their nutrients by using..." and "zooxanthellae populations can die...". There were a lot of credible sources for this article and all were relevant to the topic, I don't think that any of that could be improved. The balance of the article was good and the overall tone was neutral, which is what should be expected in a wikipedia article as people come for information and not opinions. My overall impression of the article is positive, there are many good things about it with very little to be improved. I believe that this article is a good source for people to begin learning about coral reefs, ways they are being protected, and ways that this protection can be improved.
